Sample constitution and constitution guidelines

A club is required to create a constitution as part of the club creation process. A club's constitution must include the following:

  1. Name and purpose of the club
  2. Date of last revision
  3. Requirements for membership
  4. Definition of officers/governing body and process by which they are selected
  5. Statement of who has authority to spend club money
  6. Method for selecting a faculty or staff sponsor
  7. Procedure for amending the constitution
An undergraduate club's constitution must also state that changes to the constitution must be approved by the Student Senate in the case of dependent organizations (regular clubs) and the Student Senate and the Student Association in the case of subsidiary (blanket tax) organizations before they are binding.

Find attached two sample constitutions, one for undergraduate clubs and one for graduate clubs. It is highly recommended that you use the appropriate sample constitution as a basis for your club's constitution.
